On Wednesday Modest Mouse hit Detroit for the first of a two-night stay, performing at the Fillmore in downtown Detroit. The lights cut out and the stage was empty, in the darkness the band could be seen slipping onto stage in a nonchalant fashion. They began playing riffs are the instruments that with a burst of immediate energy turned into their opening song as if someone had just turned a light-switch. The crowd cheering almost took-over the sound in the venue, even the photo-pit was filled with photographers singing along to every word. During the breaks between songs the crowd continued to chear. During one of the breaks the lead singer let everyone know that allergies from the beautiful weather has hit him in every way. Even with the allergies the music sounded excellent. The songs would usually be prefaced with a solo-riff from the song that made the audience extremely excited when they realized what the riff was from. You could hear the moment they realized which song was coming next and it was spine-tingling. The lead-ins were explosive and accompanied by a beautiful light-show and fog that coated the floor and periodically overtook the band in a light mist. They audience was enjoying themselves and I really enjoyed the show myself.
